The paid plan allows some of that, and I know it requires an api and not something that socibd offers. I am using tinychat right now, but I wish they had a bar as well...darn it why is meebo still not around? lol
@AnaMassien I know. I couldn't wrap my head around buddy pres. I don't like systems that rely on usernames, 90's web technology to post stuff as it is a bit of a security risk. I notice Iflychat does this as does many other websites. Ironically they make more sense in other aspects, but modern websites like Socibd do the right thing and don't have such a limiting requirement because of a database problem. Such is the way php platforms are becoming a thing of the past, and honestly, quite preferably, good riddence. Who needs a php powered website anymore? It's a huge waste of money built on code that took more errors to construct than the time required to have it error free.
@ElsharaSilverheart I like buddypress and Multi user wordpress, but its still too many hackable loop holes with security, and if you use the jetpack plugin your cpu usage will go thru the roof on your host. I don't miss self hosted and technically socibd gives me everything i ever wanted in a social site, except for a couple of things but they are getting there.
@AnaMassien That's why php is a thing of the past as far as I am concerned.
@ElsharaSilverheart But PHP is the great God of Code, we must never ever forget the processes of php.. yeah right, I've never seen something so complex in all the days of my living. PHP Vs. the Culture of the Chaldeans..I am not sure which is actually worse lol
:bomb:
@AnaMassien I do like it. In some ways it is more stable but in other ways it is not. It is not stable as far as a database manipulation is concerned. It is stable for core file editing as long as the files themselves are well secure. The think that an application like Ruby has an advantage over php based applications is the speed of dynamic static caching and load time. Its down side is it is not all that easy to code in and you have to be mindful, a simple syntax error can wreck everything. I respect a good ruby on rails based website, this is one of them.
I had no idea this site was ruby on rails related. I have never seen a site use it before.
I remember a site we all used back in the day was greatnuke.com and it allowed you your own phpnuke powered by website / cms thing and I liked it but never liked it enough. I am not a php fan..some scripts are easy enough like banner rotation but some scripts are just nutso.
I am personally glad socibd and ning never were php squished in a box.
@AnaMassien I just wish scripts in general were more stable. For instance, when I sign up for a new Socibd website, the problem is I receive a confirmation email even though it's already confirmed. Then it tells me to sign in even though I already am and the website informs me I have to reset my email address even though it's not necessary.
That's because each sign up is different. It's like wordpress multi user, for those who have buddypress installed and they have users that sign up for a profile and their own buddypress themselves (it gets confusing) then when you log in on one say "snails network" and then you sign up for "slugs network" your email is a seperate sign in, even tho its on the same system. I think they call it forking.
Like you join creators, then you join demo, you have a seperate database for each socibd site rather than what it was on socialparadox. I hope this made sense.
@AnaMassien It does but it is the context which does not relate to what I am trying to refer to.
